Business Spotlight: Floral Designs by Lee
Fresh flowers, heartfelt designs and a passion rooted in community
In Rutland, flowers aren’t just arrangements — they’re a way to tell stories, celebrate milestones and help people express emotions when words fall short. At Floral Designs by Lee, that philosophy is at the heart of everything owner Lee creates.
Known for high-quality blooms and creative designs, Floral Designs by Lee has become a trusted local florist for everyday moments and special occasions alike. As Lee explains, “We have the freshest quality flowers, best original designs and awesome customer service.”
It’s this combination that keeps customers returning year after year.
A lifelong connection to floristry
Lee’s journey into business ownership has been shaped by decades of hands-on experience. Before opening her own shop, she spent years working alongside her family in the floral industry.
“It’s been a hard journey. I started from home for 10 years until I came out to retail, but I have the experience of working with my mom and dad at Village Flowers that my dad owned in Orchard Park and Plaza 33. I was there for 25 years, so it is great to become established like we used to be.”
After her parents’ shops were sold, Lee took time to travel and explore other opportunities — but creativity, and flowers, eventually called her back.
“I was at my parents’ shops for years, then we sold them. I traveled and did a lot of other things, then found my true love or passion was being a florist. I designed a website and worked from home… until my whole house turned into a flower shop!”
Finding joy in every arrangement
Today, Lee says the variety and creativity of floristry are what make the work so rewarding.
“I love the way every day is different, every flower is different, every season is different, and I love helping people express their feelings through our designs. We all have fun here. We stop and smell the flowers every day.”
Working closely with flowers and customers alike continues to inspire her.
“I feel lucky to work with so many varieties of flowers. It’s very exciting.”
Growing alongside the Rutland community
Being located in Rutland has also played an important role in the business’s growth. Lee values the strong sense of connection among local businesses and the support available through the Uptown Rutland Business Association (URBA).
“It’s nice to be a part of a community where a lot of us are small businesses and to share concerns or successes and to use each other’s services or products. We feel seen by the city, which is nice, and seeing the changes is awesome — Rutland needed a facelift and URBA has really helped with that.”
She also appreciates the practical support that comes with being part of a connected business community.
“I’ve had to phone once in a while to get help with something that happened outside my shop in the night, and they have sent someone over, which is really great.”
In season now
With the holidays approaching, Floral Designs by Lee is highlighting festive arrangements and seasonal designs — perfect for gifts, gatherings or adding warmth and colour to your home.
And at the end of the day, Lee says the reason behind it all is simple:
“We love what we do.”
