Business Spotlight: Shambhu’s Spice House

Tucked into the heart of Rutland, Shambhu’s Spice House is more than just a place to grab a bite — it’s an experience rooted in culture, connection and comfort.

For more than seven years, owners Manisha Parmar and Hitesh Parmar have been serving up authentic Indian flavours to the community, building not just a business, but a space that feels like home.

This small, heart-led eatery has become a local favourite, known for its vibrant street food, Indo-Chinese dishes and rich, comforting curries. But what keeps people coming back goes beyond the menu.

“People come to us not just for food, but for a feeling — nostalgia, warmth, and that ‘ghar jaisa taste’ they don’t find easily,” said Manisha Parmar. “It’s a place where every bite tells a story.”

A journey built on passion

Like many small businesses, the journey hasn’t come without its challenges.

“It hasn’t been easy — it’s been long hours, sacrifices and a lot of learning along the way,” Parmar said. “But every smile from a customer, every repeat visit, makes it all worth it.”

Over the past seven years, that dedication has shaped both the business and the people behind it — growing alongside the Rutland community they proudly serve.

Bringing people together through food

The inspiration behind Shambhu’s Spice House was simple: to share authentic Indian flavours while creating a welcoming space for connection.

“The dream was to bring authentic Indian flavours to our community and create a space where people feel at home,” Parmar said.

Today, that vision continues to come to life daily.

“My favourite part is seeing people connect over food — families, friends, even strangers becoming regulars.”

It’s that sense of connection that defines the experience — where meals turn into moments and guests become part of the story.

Rooted in Rutland

Being part of Rutland’s business community has played a meaningful role in the restaurant’s growth.

“Being part of URBA and Rutland feels like being part of a close-knit family,” Parmar said. “There’s a sense of support, community and genuine connection here that you don’t find everywhere.”

For Manisha and Hitesh, it’s the people who make it all worthwhile.

“Rutland has heart. The community here supports local, shows love and grows with you. That connection is everything for a small business like ours.”

What’s next

Shambhu’s Spice House continues to evolve, with a focus on bringing people together in new ways. Their Social Table experiences are designed to create shared dining moments through curated meals, while new menu additions highlight healthier, homestyle options.

At its core, the mission remains the same.

“This business is more than just food — it’s a piece of our culture, our journey and our love served on a plate,” Parmar said. “We’re grateful for every single person who walks through our doors and becomes part of our story.”
