Business Spotlight: Trulli Italian Supermercato

In Uptown Rutland, Trulli Italian Supermercato has quickly become a favourite destination for food lovers looking for authentic Italian ingredients and thoughtfully sourced specialty products. Owned and operated by Stephanie, the shop offers a unique grocery experience focused on quality, sustainability and community connection.

“Trulli Italian is a small import shop with a focus on sustainably sourced southern Italian food, with no nasty ingredients,” Stephanie explains.

The Rutland shop is filled with carefully curated Italian imports, including artisanal pastas, olive oils, sauces and pantry staples that are often difficult to find elsewhere in Kelowna. Each product reflects Stephanie’s commitment to simple, high-quality ingredients and traditional food culture.

A Dream Turned Reality

Trulli Italian Supermercato opened in May 2021, during a time when many small business owners were facing uncertainty. Prior to opening the shop, Stephanie worked closely with several Okanagan wineries, hosting tasting experiences throughout the valley. When the pandemic abruptly brought that work to an end, she decided it was time to pursue a long-held dream.

“The pandemic abruptly ended my previous business,” she says. “I had long dreamed of having a little Italian shop, so it seemed that it was the perfect moment to try.”

Since opening, the business has grown steadily through word-of-mouth and community support.

“My customer base has grown from the occasional curious drop-in to having loads of regulars — some from as far away as Kamloops,” Stephanie says.

Building Community Through Food

While customers initially visit for specialty Italian ingredients, many return for the welcoming atmosphere and personal connections that define the shop.

“What I love about it most now is the sense of community I feel here in Rutland as a business owner and a resident — and talking about food with people,” Stephanie shares. “It’s beyond incredible to me that customers regularly thank me for being here.”

That sense of connection reflects the broader spirit of Rutland’s local business community, where independent businesses play an important role in creating gathering spaces and neighbourhood pride.

Growing with Support from the Local Business Community

As a member of the Uptown Rutland Business Association (URBA), Stephanie says the organization has helped open doors and create opportunities for her growing business.

“URBA has been amazingly supportive and has facilitated some great opportunities that I never had access to through any other Chamber or organization. What a great team.”

Today, Trulli Italian Supermercato continues to attract customers from across Kelowna and beyond, serving as both a neighbourhood shop and a destination for those seeking authentic Italian flavours.

Through passion, resilience and a strong connection to community, Stephanie has created more than just a specialty food store — she has built a space where food brings people together. Visit the little Italian shop at 102 – 200 Dougall Road North.
