Call for Nominations! 📣

URBA is seeking Rutland business owners or commercial building owners with a ‘bricks and mortar’ location within URBA’s defined boundaries. The Board of Directors wants to work with passionate individuals with experience in businesses or organizations that support a positive business environment, collaborating with stakeholders, organizations and businesses to help members connect with each other. 🤝

URBA’s vision for a vibrant community includes generating economic prosperity, advocating on issues important to its membership and facilitating community pride. 🌟

You can be a part of this vision to shape URBA’s strategic priorities, bringing your valuable expertise and professional demeanour. You will be joining a team that is in it to make a difference, that offers valuable networking connections, though it requires an understanding of governance responsibilities, including fiduciary duties, due diligence, and a commitment to community engagement. 👥

Directors are expected to make the best effort to:

- Attend all Board meetings
- Attend URBA events
- Participate in assigned committee meetings
- Assist with efforts to identify and introduce potential new members to URBA events

You can expect an artisan market, crafting, live entertainment, caroling, Santa, hot chocolate, food vendors and so much more. Hosted by URBA with the City of Kelowna, we welcome Mayor Tom Dyas to do the official tree lighting at 4:15 pm. ☕️🤶🎶

Photos with Santa will take place between 2:30 and 4 pm, hosted by our friends at Flash & Frame. To ensure a photo with Santa – attendees must register for a pre-booked appointment time, free of cost. Once all pre-booked times have been filled, walk-ups may be accepted as time allows. We’re excited to invite you to the Homelessness Response Workshop for Local Businesses, co-hosted by the Uptown Rutland Business Association and the Chamber of Commerce.

This event, facilitated by Kelowna Gospel Mission, will provide practical tools to help your business respond to homelessness, reduce stigma, and contribute to community safety.

Date: Tuesday, November 19
Time: 5:30-7:30 PM
Location: Rutland Thrift at 140 Dougall Road North
Cost: Free 💲

This is an opportunity to gain practical, actionable knowledge for your team to help make our community safer and more inclusive. In this workshop, you’ll learn: 💡

* How to confidently handle situations involving homelessness—from approaching individuals to identifying when to seek help.
* Reducing stigma and fostering empathy—understanding homelessness and the issues surrounding it to create a more compassionate community.
* Connecting individuals to resources—know what local support services are available and how to guide those in need toward help.

This free workshop is generously supported by the Central Okanagan Community Action Team (CAT), which has been instrumental in fostering partnerships to address the overdose and toxic drug crisis in our community. This training is vital as businesses play a key role in creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone in Kelowna. 🫶
